Land Acknowledgement Statement
The Coalition is working to improve our understanding of Reconciliation. As we learn more about our responsibilities to the original Peoples of this land, we commit to meaningful actions intended to foster relationships with the Indigenous Peoples whose traditional territories lie within the Credit River Watershed.
Here are some resources we are using to guide our understanding and actions with respect to Reconciliation:
Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Call to Action
The Coalition for the West Credit River would like to acknowledge that the entire Credit River Watershed is part of the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, part of the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat, and the home to many Métis, Inuit and Indigenous Peoples.
We affirm that treaties made with the original inhabitants of these lands are enduring and include responsibilities for us all. The Coalition is grateful for the opportunity to work within these lands and waters, and accept our responsibility for the care and stewardship of all our relations.
